‘The Plot Thickens’ Turns Attention To John Ford For New Season

The long-running podcast, The Plot Thickens, will cover one of the most legendary directors to grace filmmaking. The podcast will be covering director John Ford.

Ford has directed a vast number of films across his expansive career. Some of his most well-known works are The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Stagecoach, and the 1940 adaptation of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes Of Wrath, among many others. Ford eventually died in 1973.

The topic of Ford will make up the new season of The Plot Thickens, coming from Turner Classic Movies. The host of the show is TCM’s own Ben Mankiewicz, with this season set to encompass the full career of Ford, even including a filming of D-Day, done by Ford.

Host Mankiewicz called Ford “a mercurial figure. Not surprisingly given his stature, the stereotypes about Ford are incomplete.”

He continued, “This season of The Plot Thickens has been spent trying to find out what is true about John Ford and what isn’t. It hasn’t been easy getting to the bottom of John Ford, but as you’ll hear, it was worth the trip.”

Hollywood Reporter stated that part of the podcast will include exclusive interviews with Katherine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, James Stewart, and even John Wayne, a common star in many of Ford’s films.

The beginning of the podcast is set for June 6th, the 80th anniversary of D-Day, coinciding with the director’s connection to the event.
