MonkeyPaw Productions is set to produce a reboot of the 1991 horror picture The People Under The Stairs. Ezra Clayton Daniels who is known for Doom Patrol and Night Sky will write the screenplay.
According to Deadline, The development is just starting to take shape. Jordan Peele will also produce the film. Daniels very recently contributed to Out There Screaming, Peele’s New York Times Best Selling short story.
Wes Craven wrote and directed the original Universal Studios film. The storyline revolves around a young character named Fool, who breaks into his family’s home. There, he discovers a very disturbing situation of incestuous activities between adult siblings who have mutilated several boys. Fool decides to escape before they capture him, and during this escape, he meets their daughter, Alice. Together, they embark on a quest to escape their horrifying surroundings.
Daniels is the creator of several graphic novels such as Upgrade Soul and BTTM FDRS, both of which have been nominated for the Eisner, Harvey, and Ignatz awards. He wrote a segment for Horror Noire and was Executive Story Editor on Doom Patrol.
As of now, MonkeyPaw Productions has two movies that will be released in 2024, a feature on Christmas Day and an untitled horror thriller production.
