‘The Pecan Man’ has Found Its Director in So Yong Kim

According to an exclusive by Variety, In between Days director So Yong Kim will officially direct the upcoming novel-turned- independent film The Pecan Man.

Kim, who is well-known within the Sundance circuit for her competitive works including For Ellen and Lovesong, had this to say about her boarding upon the project:

“I’m honored to collaborate with the talented team of BCDF Pictures and Joseph Muszynski on this incredible project… I believe that The Pecan Man is an essential story that should be told cinematically. What drew me to the material was its deeply felt humanity and the strong female characters who are richly drawn. I’m excited to bring their story to the screen.”

Kim certainly has a valid point in saying that Cassie Dandridge Selleck’s story is “essential.” Based in a small southern town in the 1970’s, and after a homeless black man is all-too-quickly charged with the deadly stabbing of the police chief’s son, we follow a white widow and her black housekeeper through their internal struggles with what they know about the crime and how it is bound to change their lives.

Working along with the Berlin International Festival’s Fiprecsi prize recipient are producers from BCDF Pictures, Claude Dal Farra, Brice Dal Farra, and Brian Keady. Joseph Muszynski, who adapted the book for the screen, will executive produce.

BCDF, who developed the adaption, is known for their credits in the comedy Bachelorette and their comedy-drama Liberal Arts. They also help to develop book properties for both film and television on shows including Can You Keep a Secret, Hush, Hush, and The Language of Flowers.
