The Oscars 2014: The Winners

In a night where there could have been many surprises, there ended up being very few. Maybe the biggest shocker was in the Animated Short Film category. Just think about that for a second. Or else maybe it was The Great Gatsby winning both awards for which it was nominated. But then they were both for the flashy design in costume and sets, the one place where that film definitively excelled. Or else maybe it was American Hustle getting completely shut out. But then, it faced stiff competition in every category where it was nominated.

It’s not to say that the tension was lacking, but ultimately tonight’s was an Oscar ceremony which felt like it went very according to script. 12 Years A Slave continued its Best Picture dominance from the lead up to the Academy Awards, with Gravity just about sweeping the technical awards en route to seven Oscars, Ellen DeGeneres was a wonderful host.
