The Official Trailer for ‘The Dark Tower’ Finally Arrives

The Gunslinger and The Man in Black will soon make their cinematic debuts. Sony’s hotly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower comes to the big-screen this summer and, finally, the official trailer has been released. The feature stars Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba and marks the English-language feature debut for director Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair).

The synopsis reads: “Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.” Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Abbey Lee (The Neon Demon), Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children) and newcomer Tom Taylor co-star. Arcel co-penned the screenplay along wide Akiva Goldsman, Jeff Pinkner and Anders Thomas Jensen.

Notably, it has taken quite a bit of time to finally see some footage of The Dark Tower. Sony re-jiggered release plans not once, but twice in an effort to accomodate the film a lengthier post-production schedule. Ahead of this week, no footage has made public – strange for a major, star-studded film with a loyal fan-base and due in theaters this summer.

Yesterday, McConaughey and Elba showed off the first teases of The Dark Tower on Twitter – in cheeky fashion – ahead of today’s official reveal.

The Dark Tower hits theaters on August 4th.
