20th Century Studios, previously known as 20th Century Fox, has released a new teaser trailer for their long-delayed X-Men horror movie The New Mutants while announcing that the film will have a panel at Comic-Con @ Home. Despite this, it is still unclear when the troubled movie will release.
For those who need a refresher, The New Mutants was shot by writer/director Josh Boone all the way back in 2017, but was delayed multiple times to the point where it is still unreleased in 2020. First, the film was pushed to make room for Fox’s Deadpool 2 and Dark Phoenix respectively, projects that the studio rightly felt were higher priority.
Then, the studio was bought by Disney, leading it to be pushed as a result of Disney’s crowded release schedule. And in a cruel twist of fate, right when we thought it was finally going to grace screens, the novel coronavirus pandemic lead to a shutdown of the entire industry and the entire world economy.
The film currently has a release date of August 28, but with a recent spike in coronavirus cases in the United States and other movie tentpoles like Tenet and Mulan expected to be moved back, it is unlikely for it to remain in that slot.
The Comic-Con video panel, airing on July 23, will be hosted by Ira Madison III and will include director and writer Josh Boone and cast members Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt and Henry Zaga.
