Among a multitude of anniversary showings taking place this year, one film whose rerelease is yet to come is The Matrix. Fathom Events is bringing the film back, and they just showed off a trailer for the film’s return to theaters.
Upon its release in 1999, The Matrix immediately became a sci-fi/action staple. The film follows a young man played by Keanu Reeves who has a knack with computers. His skills make him of interest to a group of rebels who are pushing back against a malevolent computer uprising.
The Matrix became a career highlight for Reeves, who since then has cemented himself even more as an action star since taking the titular role in the John Wick series. He stars alongside Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving.
The Matrix would go on to spawn several sequels since its release. 2003 saw both The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, followed by The Matrix Resurrections some years later in 2021.
Screenrant noted that the new trailer has Jessica Henwick talking about the original film. Henwick, who starred in the fourth film of the series, Resurrections, starts the trailer by posing the question, “what is The Matrix?”
Screenrant also went on to note the films enduring legacy, while also articulating the film as a monumental achievement for the big screen.
The Matrix comes back to theaters September 19th and 22nd. Check out the trailer below.
