Amblin’s Kristie Macosko Krieger, who has produced such films as The Post, Bridge of Spies, and the forthcoming West Side Story, will produce this project. Bekka Bowling (Netflix’s Lovesick) will adapt the screenplay from Beth O’Leary‘s novel of the same name.
This would be O’Leary’s second novel, a Sunday Times bestseller which was released in the UK last month and will be available in the U.S and Canada on August 18. O’Leary is also set to executive produce alongside Brosnahan.
The Switch follows a 29-year-old consultant, and her 79-year-old grandmother, who decide to swap lives (including cell phones) for two months after a series of personal setbacks. The younger woman moves to a tiny Yorkshire village, finding herself in the midst of responsibilities of dog walking and neighborhood watch. The older woman ends up in a tiny London flat, navigating dating apps and starting up a social club for lonely Londoners.
Brosnahan is best known for her Emmy-winning role in the Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She is set to star alongside Anthony Ramos in the Amblin sci-fi project Distant, which postponed its production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also set to produce and star in an Amazon Studios movie I’m Your Woman, directed by Julia Hart and co-written with Jordan Harowitz.
