Warner Bros. has announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will be released in theaters on December 17, 2027. The film will be developed by Warner Bros. as well as New Line Cinema. Andy Serkis will be returning as Gollum, but this time he will also be sitting in the director’s chair. He previously directed Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. He is currently the only actor attached, but Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will all be returning to produce the film.
Warner Bros. also announced the next film from director M. Night Shyamalan, Remain. The film is a romantic thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal alongside Phoebe Dynevor and Ashley Walters. Interestingly, the story was penned by Shyamalan as well as author Nicholas Sparks. The two came up with the idea together but are creating individual projects based on the same story. Shyamalan’s Remain is set for a October 23, 2026 release, while Sparks’ novel of the same name will hit shelves a year earlier on October 7, 2025.
Finally, a new Evil Dead film was announced, coming from Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. The film will star Souheila Yacoub, and will be produced by Rob Tapert and of course, Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi. Bruce Campbell, who played Ash Williams in the original films, will be an executive producer on the project. There is no director attached yet, but the film is planned for a July 24, 2026 release.
