Terry Gilliam is easily considered one of the best comedy writers and directors of the 20th century, being the mastermind behind all of the Monty Python titles including The Flying Circus, The Life of Brian, The Holy Grail, and The Meaning of Life. Gilliam had long been working on a film about Don Quixote, beginning his work in the 1990’s, but hurdle after hurdle would prevent his work from coming to fruition quickly. After various casting changes, financial problems, wishy-washy-producers, and abandoned films, the famed director and writer has finally released a trailer for the film titled The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which you can watch below.
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote follows the story of a young advertising executive who suddenly meets a crazy old man who is supposedly Don Quixote. The man believes that the executive is his long time squire Sancho Panza and the two begin a journey across time and space as they travel between the 17th and 21st centuries and through the fantasy world of Don Quixote and the real world.
The film features a hard-hitting cast including Adam Driver, Olga Kurylenko, Stellan Skarsgard, Jonathan Pryce, Jason Watkins, Paloma Bloyd, and Joana Ribiero. The film is directed and written by Terry Gilliam with Tony Grisoni helping on the script. The film is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
