The Lion King remake is not too far away from its summer release, following up Aladdin as the next in a long lineup of Disney live-action remakes. With the film on the horizon, some are curious about how the film will be rated by the Motion Picture Association of America. With the original Animated Film being rated G, it seems odd that the remake of it which some are saying seems like a shot for shot remake will be Rated PG.
The Remake is Rated PG for “sequences of violence and peril, and some thematic elements”. Some may critique that is an odd thing to give the film that rating when the Original Film was also filled with Thematic Elements and Sequences of Violence and Peril. This not only includes the heartbreaking on-screen death of King Mufasa, but also hyenas goose-stepping like Nazis during the ‘Be Prepared’ sequence, a dark Disney song that might ironically be cut from the live-action film. However, given that PG ratings tend to be more common in children films nowadays, as well as the majority of Disney remakes generally being PG, this doesn’t seem too far off from the MPAA’s recent actions.
The Lion King is set for release on July 19th, 2019.
