Ben Affleck has officially joined the cast of Dee Rees‘ next Netflix feature The Last Thing He Wanted. Alongside Affleck are other recognizable names including Anne Hathaway, Toby Jones, Rosie Perez, and Edi Gathegi.
The film is Rees’ next project after The Netflix hit Mudbound. The last Thing He Wanted is based on Joan Didion’s 1996 novel and follows the story of Elena McMohan (Hathaway), a journalist who inherits her father’s deal-making position, specifically arms deal-making. Soon, Elena is thrown into into the dangerous world of Iran-Contra Affair’s “arm-for-drugs” plot comes to a head.
Rees not only penned the screenplay along with Marco Villalobos, but she will also produce with Cassian Elwes. Executive producers include Jamin O’Brien, Wayne Godfrey, Robert Jones, Mark Lane, and James Harris.
Affleck can also been seen on his other recent Netflix project, the upcoming Triple Frontier with Oscar Isaac and Charlie Hunnam.
The Last Thing He Wanted is currently shooting in Peuro Rico and will be released on the streaming site in 2019.
