Two big developments have been announced in the lead-up to the release of the second part of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. First, the movie will be digitally remastered into IMAX format and released in IMAX 3D theaters on November 20, 2015. To hold fans over until then, an interactive traveling exhibition based on the franchise will premiere in Times Square on July 1st.
Though they were not presented in 3D upon their release, the previous two installments of the Hunger Games series, Catching Fire and Mockingjay – Part 1, broke records as the first back-to-back sequels to have the highest-grossing releases at domestic box offices. In all likelihood, the 3D release of Part 2 will help the franchise continue its record-breaking streak. The final installment in the series, Part 2 follows Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and her troops from District 13 as they attempt to assassinate President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the midst of all-out war.
“The Hunger Games: The Exhibition,” which will run through January 3, 2016, will feature authentic costumes and props from the films as well as several interactive galleries based on different locations in the series. Visitors will be offered a hands-on, behind-the-scenes exploration of the films, with thorough set recreations and even a stunt choreography feature.
