Oscar winner Brie Larson has re-teamed with Short Term 12 director Destin Daniel Cretton to bring to life the true story of The Glass Castle. Based on the bestselling memoir by Jeanette Walls, the story follows the unconventional upbringing of a girl as she grows up moving from home to home across the United States with her poor, yet full of life family and how she carries her adventurous and unreliable parents into her adulthood, no matter how much she tries to resist.
Woody Harrelson and Naomi Watts also star as Jeannette’s wild father and mother, and Max Greenfield co-stars as her later husband. Contrasting her poverty stricken childhood at the hands of her jobless father and artist mother with her adult success as a New York journalist, the film will explore the emotionally charged reconciliation of th opposing stages of life and the subsequent familial complications.
The Glass Castle hits theaters on August 11. Check out the trailer below, which already has us wanting more of Larson, Harrelson, and Watts’ performances.
