‘The Garfield Movie’ Takes A Cat Nap On Top The Box Office During Slow Weekend With $14 Million Domestically

The weekend after Memorial Day is gearing up to be just as bleak as last weekend. The Garfield Movie will claim the top spot at the box office on a very quiet weekend.

Hollywood Reporter pointed out that this weekend was especially dull compared to last year’s earnings. Spider-Man: Across The Spiderverse swung onto this big screen this time last year, and went on to become a box office darling. The weekend might end at a 67% drop from last year to this year.

Garfield is shaping up to take home $14 million this weekend, with a side of lasagna. The small total, on top of its roughly $30 million for Memorial Day weekend, won’t hurt the film too much, since it’s working off a reported budget of $60 million.

Furiosa, however, is not quite so well off. George Miller’s newest excursion is a prequel centering on the titular character Furiosa, showing her young life and rise to power ahead of where audiences saw her in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga falls to third place this weekend, coming up behind IF. In its third weekend, the film about imaginary friends IF made $10.8 million, bringing its domestic total to $80.4 million.

With a Memorial Day weekend totaling around $32 million, Furiosa’s second weekend will add $10.75 million, going off a reported budget of $168 million. Worldwide, Furiosa is barely at half that, with $74 million.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes holds down fourth with around $9 million, with fifth going to Fall Guy with $4.2 million.
