The Game Continues! ‘Saw’ Confirms a Ninth Film!

The Saw franchise made its mark on the horror industry when the first film made its debut back in 2004. It told the story of serial killer who would place his victims in horrifying traps to see if they could survive. A tape cassette would usually explain what was happening and what was to happen next. It always started with, ” Hello. I want to play a game.”  The franchise saw seven sequels and a prequel titled Jigsaw that was released in 2017.

It was announced that a ninth film was in the works but just a couple of days ago, comedian and actor Chris Rock, yes that’s right, has written story treatment for the next installment. Jigsaw writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger are returning to write the script. Darren Lynn Bousman (Director of Saw II, Saw III & Saw IV) will be directing this next installment.

Chris Rock will serve as executive producer and was quoted, “I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004. I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.” No word on whether James Wan or Leigh Whannell (creators of Saw) will return to produce. Twisted Pictures returns as the Production Company while Lionsgate will handle distribution.

A release date has been set for October 23, 2020. Stay tuned for more information to see if Billy the Puppet and Jigsaw himself are coming back to play one more game!

Rick Rice: A kid at heart who has loved watching movies from a very young age. Credit must be given to Siskel and Ebert whose film reviews educated me on the world of film inspired me to become a writer myself. I love to read books that range from various topics, copious amounts of research is something that excites me and of course sitting in a movie theater is a highlight of my life. When I'm not watching movies or reading I enjoy listening to foreign music and working hard on finishing my short stories. Currently working on my degree in English with a plan to enroll into Film School with the dream of becoming a screenwriter and director.
