The Devil Wears Prada’s story is not yet over. It was just announced that the hit comedy is in the works for a sequel with Disney. The movie’s original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, is in conversation to return with no word if director David Frankel will as well.
No information has been released regarding who from the original cast will return, but the storyline will follow the iconic, yet terrifying, Miranda Priestly “as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs,” according to Variety. Of course, this character was portrayed by Meryl Streep in one of her most iconic and notable roles. Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt joined Streep in the original cast as Andie and Emily, Priestly’s overworked employees.
The original The Devil Wears Prada was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 book of the same name. The book recounted Weisberger’s time working for the American Vogue editor Anna Wintour. The movie version was released in 2006 and earned $326.7 million worldwide at the box office.
Since the release of The Devil Wears Prada, Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt have all solidified themselves as household names. With the release of this new movie, fans will have the chance to once again immerse themselves into the rigorous world of fashion with some of the most iconic characters in film history, hopefully with their original actors playing them.
