Horror thriller The Conjuring has just opened this weekend and New Line Cinema is already working on a sequel. The film centers on real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) who travel to a Rhode Island farmhouse to help a family haunted by a demonic presence.
Due to very strong test screenings and reviews, New Line is excited about the possible horror franchise they have on their hands. The studio has a history of producing and distributing successful horror films and franchises including Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and the Final Destination franchise.
Lorraine Warren (the real one, not Vera Farmiga) helped devolop the script for The Conjuring, and has also offered her permission and support of the possible franchise, which will be based on the Warrens’ investigations. Some of their other investigations have also been turned into films including The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut.
The Conjuring is now playing in theaters.
