Demonic spirits aren’t the only things being conjured this weekend. The newest entry in the Conjuring series, The Conjuring: Last Rites, was able to summon quite a hefty profit on its debut Friday, and is now likely to fly right past its predictions.
Before it hit theater screens, Last Rites was tracking for an opening of around an even $50 million. The Friday totals for the film alone, which does encompass preview screenings, made a whopping $34.5 million, nearly matching what it was expected to make even before Saturday.
Variety notes that Last Rites blowing past the $50 million prediction will mean this is the highest opening of the Conjuring series. The previous record holder was The Nun from 2018, with a $53 million weekend. The Nun also happened to hold the highest first-day gross for the series, making $22 million in its debut Friday.
With this ninth film from the world of The Conuring, the track that the latest installment is on will land it as one of the best opening weekends for 2025 so far. Many reports are speculating that it could even go as far as to beat out Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, which opened to $74 million over its debut weekend earlier in May.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is now playing in theaters.
