The Callum Turner And Monica Barbaro-Led Rom-Com ‘One Night Only’ Drops First Trailer

Universal Pictures has dropped the first trailer for their upcoming rom-com One Night Only.  Callum Turner (Eternity, Emma.) and Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown, Top Gun: Maverick) will star, while Will Gluck (Anyone But You, Easy A) will direct.

The trailer starts off with Allie (Barbaro) arriving at a pizza place that is closed for the night, but Owen (Turner) is still inside.  The two already know one another from earlier in the day, which was established later in the trailer, and end up sharing a pizza together while discussing sex.  The punchline for the film is that it takes place on the one night of the year when pre-marital sex is legal.  Allie and Owen form a clear bond as the trailer unfolds, while it also focuses on the obvious comedic elements that can unravel in this type of scenario.  One scene sees one of Allie’s friends meeting someone she plans to sleep with on the line for the bathroom, shortly after the pair committed to not making any bad decisions.  Beyond the trailer, an article from Variety outlines the official logline for the film.

Allie and Owen, two love-starved strangers who crash into each other in an ever-so-slightly fictionalized New York City on the one night of the year when single people are allowed to have sex. Recently dumped Owen and hopeful romantic Allie might be the only two singles in the city looking for more than just a quick encounter. They both feel a spark when they meet, but a series of missteps and side quests complicate their night, keeping them apart. As they each race toward and away from each other across the city, they just might discover that the one thing they want most is closer than they think.

The rest of the cast for the film includes: Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, King Princess, Este Haim, Zewe, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton.  Ringwald will play the role of Owen’s mother, with Burton playing the role of her partner.  Producing the film is director Gluck and Jacqueline Monetta, under the umbrella of their Olive Bridge Entertainment film and television production company.  Will Gluck also penned the script for the film, while the film is also set to be the first producing gig for Monetta.  She previously served as an executive producer for Gluck’s previous film, Anyone But You, which was also a rom-com.

One Night Only will hit theaters this Summer on August 7. View the official trailer below.
