After playing Sydney Adamu, one of the chefs behind a Chicago sandwich shop in the FX comedy-drama series The Bear, breakout star Ayo Edebiri has found a new team to join as she has joined Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts in a new secret role. Edebiri is the latest addition to the Thunderbolts ensemble announced during Disney’s D23 event last year. now including Florence Pugh as Black Widows sister, Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.
Jake Schreier is sitting in the director’s chair of the new Marvel ensemble. Black Widow writer Eric Pearson is penning the script, with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing. Not much is known about the film’s plot, but in the comics, it revolves around a group of villains and sometimes heroes who are sent on missions commissioned by the government. Some consider them to be the Marvel equivalent of DC’s Suicide Squad. The film role marks Edebiri’s first significant studio starring role. Her performance in the bear earned a Critics Choice Award nomination, and she is expected to be a player in tyear’sar’s Emmy race. Season 2 will premiere this summer on FX on Hulu.
On the film side, she recently appeared in Theater Camp opposite Ben Platt, which had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The film became one of the more significant sales at the fest, with Searchlight having the distribution rights.
