‘The Batman’ Has Found Its New Commissioner Gordon in Jeffrey Wright

It’s official: Jeffery Wright is the new Commissioner Gordon. Back in September, Philips announced that the Tony and Emmy-award winning actor would fill a key role in the upcoming DC film The Batman. Director Matt Reeves, however, finally confirmed it via Twitter on Wednesday night.

Joining the likes of J.K Simmons and Gary Oldman, who both played James Gordon in previous films, Wright is sure to bring his own spin to the Caped Crusaders right hand man against crime in Gotham City. The highly anticipated Batman reboot is turning heads with its casting so far, including announcements of Zoe Kravitz and Paul Dano as Catwoman and the Riddler. Talks fell short when it was rumored that Jonah Hill was going to be casted as the Penguin, and since then the character has yet to be officially cast.

Originally The Batman was supposed to star and be directed by Ben Affleck before his eventual departure from the DCEU. Affleck and Reeves’ script was going to revolve around Batman fighting his foes while trapped inside Arkham Asylum, offering a more psychological approach inside the mind of Bruce Wayne. After Affleck left, Reeves had to start fresh with a new approach on a younger Batman, including the replacement casting of Robert Pattinson. The Batman will be released on June 25, 2021.
