Liam Neeson will be fighting against government conspiracies in Mark Williams’ spy action-thriller Blacklight co-starring Tim Draxl (A Few Best Men), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Hamilton), and Taylor John Smith (Shadow in the Cloud). Distributed by Open Road Films, its release date is scheduled for February 11th. The trailer was released today exclusively on Collider.
Neeson plays Travis Block, a freelance government agent who has been doing their dirty work for years. When Block wants out of his shady career to spend more time with his daughter and granddaughter, his FBI supervisor’s response to his request is an emphatic no. This will lead Block, along with a journalist played by Raver-Lampman, down a road of government conspiracies and violence as his former FBI contractor kidnaps his family, threatening to kill them if he doesn’t stop uncovering the dark truth behind Operation Unity and the secret killings of US citizens.
A good one-liner by Liam Neeson from the trailer that best describes the film would be, “If I find out you have anything to do with my granddaughter disappearing, you’re going to need more men!” as the second half of the trailer drops any family sentimentality or conspiracy theories and goes full-on “Rambo” mode. The trailer is subsequently filled with spectacular sequences of explosions, rapid machine-gun fire, and fast car chases.
It seems as if Sir Liam Neeson has created a niche action genre for himself following the same formula as Taken (2008). Fans of this genre will be delighted to hear that in addition to Blacklight coming out in February, Memory, directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and co-starring Guy Pearce (Iron Man 3), will be out in April.
