The 93rd Oscars Will Not Have A Host

Via Deadline, the 93rd Academy Awards will not have a host, but instead a slew of presenters throughout the awards show. The presenters at this time are unknown. However, this comes as little surprise as the last two ceremonies have done the same thing to solid results

After Kevin Hart left the job due to a series of old-outdated tweets months before the 2019 ceremonies, the Oscars have remained host-less. Jimmy Kimmel was the last main host in 2018. There has not been a huge uproar about a host-less ceremony, and for the most part audiences seem to be indifferent. 

This speaks to the evolving nature of awards ceremonies in general. The Golden Globes and Grammys, while having hosts, experienced low audience numbers this year. After a pandemic-filled year, many people recognized the true importance of their own lives, and while awards shows are fun, they do not necessarily effect the average person that much. 

The Grammys experienced their lowest numbers in over a decade, while the Golden Globes were not much better. However, the Academy Awards, as well as the concept of the Oscar award itself, still speak to some film lovers. 

The Academy Awards still hold some prestige, and their evolution comes from finding a way to be unique, whether that be without a host and an acceptance speech. 

Whether the Oscars or any awards show still means something is a question for another time. 

Though this last year has proved that at the end of it all, it is Hollywood giving awards to, well, Hollywood. Though, the nominations were pretty good this year, and hopefully for the future. Regardless, the Academy Awards will air on Sunday April 25, 2021.
