Westworld and Reminiscence star, Thandie Newton, is in talks to join the cast of the third installment of the Magic Mike franchise starring Channing Tatum. As reported by Variety, Steven Soderbergh, the director of Magic Mike, will return in that capacity. Reid Carolin, who wrote the first two films, will return as well.
Magic Mike first premiered in the summer of 2012, starring Channing Tatum as Mike Lane, a stripper in Florida who takes a young, impressionable Alex Pettyfer under his wing. The sequel Magic Mike XXL brought the now-retired stripper back to his roots and his speedo-clad co-stars Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, and Adam Rodriguez. This last film has been said to wrap a bow on the story of Mike Lane. The franchise is loosely based on Channing Tatum’s real-life experiences as a stripper when he was 18.
When asked how Tatum felt about returning as Mike Lane he commented, “There are no words for how excited I am to blow the doors off of the world of Magic Mike with Steven, Greg, Reid, and the amazing people at HBO Max. The stripperverse will never be the same.”
Thandie Newton is an English actress who has starred in films such as The Pursuit of Happyness, Norbit, Mission Impossible II, 2012, and many more. Newton’s role has not been specified but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be the female lead of the film.
