Thai Thriller ‘Bad Genius’ To have Remake Helmed By North American Studio ‘Vertical’

Bad Genius broke box office records in Thailand and across Asia when it premiered in 2017, now a remake under Verticaworking with the original Thai studios Little Ray Media and others will be bringing the film to international theaters. Under the directorial debut of seasoned Producer J. C. Lee, the Bad Genius remakes have Callina Liang, Jabari Banks, and Benedict Wong headlining under a script co-written with Lee and Julius Onah who worked with Lee previously. Wong will also be one of the project’s confirmed executive producers.

The original Bad Genius was written and directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya whose film tells the story of youths in a prestigious school doing whatever it takes to get the academic accomplishments to be the best. The thriller film continues to influence the remake’s direction with producers on the project remaking that it is a ‘wonderful experience’ and great to be ‘working with quality source material’. How similar the films will be to each other such as a scene-by-scene recreation or if the remake will take its new direction of mind-boggling twist will remain to be seen.

While there is no definitive release date for the Bad Genius remake.
