According to Deadline, Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr have assumed the lead roles in the upcoming horror film Skeletons in the Closet. The film is out of the pre-production stage and is set to begin filming in Las Vegas this week.
The synopsis per Deadline is as follows:
The film is about the spirit of La Llorona granting a costly wish to the parents of a child by curing her of cancer. In saving the child, the mother of the child suffers the consequences by losing her beloved husband and becoming more evil until she pledges her allegiance to La Llorona. The father (Howard) spirals down the path of self-destruction after borrowing hard money from a ruthless mobster to pay the hospital bills for his daughter.
The last few years have seen quite a few variations on the legend of La Llorona, with the most notable being The Curse of La Llorona in 2019. Lance Kawas directs the film based on a screenplay by Koji Steven Sakai, inspired by an original idea by Al Bravo. With the film entering production this early in the year, an October release date could be likely but an official release date has yet to be announced.
