Following the passing of David Lynch, many have taken to commenting on the death of the acclaimed director, ranging from avid fans to those who knew him personally. Many within the industry who had the chance to meet him have come out to express their own remorse over his death.
Over the years, Lynch had countless credits to his name, from movies like Eraserhead and Elephant Man, to appearing in cameo roles in his own and others’ films.
One cameo Lynch had was in 2022’s The Fabelmans from Steven Spielberg, where he appeared in the film to play the iconic director John Ford. Spielberg spoke specifically to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after Lynch’s passing, not shying away from praising him as a director.
“Here was one of my heroes — David Lynch playing one of my heroes. It was surreal and seemed like a scene out of one of David’s own movies. The world is going to miss such an original and unique voice. His films have already stood the test of time and they always will,” Spielberg said.
Similarly, the American Film Institute commented on his passing as well to The Hollywood Reporter, sharing an excerpt from a seminar where Lynch spoke. “Tell the stories that are inside you. Each person has these stories that come along. Just stay true to those ideas and enjoy the doing of it,” he said. AFI’s statement ended by saying “he will live on in our dreams.”
Fellow director Ron Howard, posting to X, also spoke to the qualities of Lynch, calling him “a gracious man and a fearless artist.” He continued by calling Lynch’s films “unforgettable cinema.” Howard’s post is linked below.
