Taiwanese actress Shu Qi has completed production on her directorial debut, Girl, an original story she both wrote and directed.
Production company Mandarin Vision recently released a teaser image for the film, along with a photo of Shu behind the camera during a location shoot. The film is scheduled for release in Asia sometime in 2025, though it is unclear if Shu will also star in the project.
Shu, known for her roles in both arthouse and commercial films, has been a staple in the Chinese-speaking film industry. She gained international recognition with her performance in Hou Hsiao-hsien’s Millennium Mambo (2001) and has since starred in major productions such as Feng Xiaogang’s If You Are the One (2008), Stephen Chow’s Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (2013), and Hou’s critically acclaimed The Assassin (2015).
Shu has won multiple awards, including two Golden Horse Awards and three Hong Kong Film Awards, and served on juries for prestigious film festivals such as Cannes and Venice.
“I am so happy that filming is wrapped,” Shu said. “I look forward to sharing this film with audiences everywhere.”
Girl is being produced by veteran Taiwanese producer Yeh Jufeng, who previously worked with Shu on The Village of No Return (2017).
The film is financed by several Chinese companies, including CMC Entertainment, Wow Momentum, J.Q. Pictures and Aranya Pictures.
Further details about the plot and cast remain under wraps.
