Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Film Still In The Works

At the Star Wars Celebration in London, it was announced that alongside Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s upcoming Star Wars film starring Daisy Ridley returning to the role of Rey, Dave Filono and James Mangold will also be directing their movies for the franchise, which made some fans worried for Taika Waititi’s project. While Obaid-Chinoy’s film will take place after the events of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, where it is expected that the plot will focus on Rey as she tries to create a new Jedi Order, the story of the following two films by Filono and Mangold is said to revolve around the “dawn of the Jedi” and the New Republic, respectively.

The news of these films stirred some fans that feared that Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film had been shelved (Comicbook). However, this has turned out to be not the case, as Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy told Variety that Waititi’s project was still in the works.

Kennedy states: “Taika is still working away… He’s writing the script himself. He doesn’t really want to bring others into that process, and I don’t blame him. He has a very, very unique voice. So we want to protect that, and that’s what he’s doing. But we’re going to make that one day.”
