Variety has just confirmed the teaming of Rocky‘s Sylvester Stallone with MGM in another boxing movie, this time centering around Jack Johnson. As the first African American heavyweight champion, Johnson was recently pardon by President Donald Trump following a violation of the Mann Act in 1910 where he was accused of transporting women across state lines for “immoral purposes.”
The pardon was in large part due to Stallone who helped in the cause.
The untitled film still does not have a cast. It will be the first film under Stallone’s Balboa Productions, which is part of a multi-year deal with Starlight Culture Entertainment.
Stallone previously teamed up with MGM for Creed, the spin off centering around the grandson of Rocky’s opponent, Apollo Creed, which its sequel, Creed II, is set to debut in theaters this November.
