Sylvester Stallone seemingly can’t let Rambo go. The three-time Academy Award nominee divulged on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy Podcast that he proposed his installment of a teenage Rambo, where Stallone would then play a “sophisticated” AI de-aged version of his character.

Stallone said on the podcast, “Everyone thought I was crazy…AI is sophisticated enough to go through Saigon to see him at 18 years old and basically use the same image. So it isn’t as big a stretch.” With the non-AI Rambo prequel in the works, Stallone gave a warning to whoever gets the role in the end, saying, “It’s very, very hard. [The actor] may do a stellar job, but you’re overcoming this because I went through it with Get Carter. Everyone loves the original, and then you’re always fighting that prejudice.” Stallone played the iconic action hero in five movies: 1982’s First Blood, 1985’s Rambo: First Blood Part II, 1988’s Rambo III, 2008’s Rambo, and 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood. The film series has grossed approximately $800 million at the worldwide box office.

The prequel, John Rambo, which has Noah Centineo in talks to star as the young John Rambo, will be directed by Jalmari Helander and feature a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirivani. While the feature’s plot has yet to be revealed, it is confirmed to center around “the origin story of a young John Rambo during the Vietnam War.” The feature is set to start shooting in Thailand in early 2026, with Lionsgate looking to distribute.
