On May 29th, HBO is releasing a whistleblower drama packed film starring Euphoria’s best, Sydney Sweeney. The film is called Reality, as Sweeney reenacts the real life events from 2017. She will play the former Air Force member, Reality Winner, and will dive into the events of her releasing classified information between Russia and the United States regarding the 2016 election.
The film was inspired by the FBI interrogation recordings following Reality’s arrest. The script is written by director Tina Satter, as well as James Paul Dallas. Satter originally altered the script to be for the play, Is This A Room, which opened on Broadway in 2021.
The trailer goes on to show Reality, a young innocent looking individual who is in trouble for releasing one of the biggest secrets related to the presidential election. During the trailer, it shows the interrogation scene where Reality is caught saying:
I’m trying to deploy… I’m not trying to be a whistleblower. That’s crazy.
Following recent interview, Sweeney hopes that the film can change the public’s view on Reality Winner. She hopes people can reflect on Reality’s story and show compassion towards the situation.
“I think that the film has such a unique approach by telling Reality’s story in such an emotional and human way,” Sweeney says, “and I hope that instead of reducing her to just a headline, or interpreting the case through a partisan lens, that this movie can offer a window into what this woman went through on that day, and what she had to endure for her own decisions.”
