Swedish Sci-Fi Film ‘Watch The Skies’ Lands US Distribution

Audiences won’t have to look to the sky but rather to the theater screens for this upcoming film. Coming from Sweden, Watch The Skies has cemented a distribution deal for release within the US. Directed and co-written by Victor Danell, a deal was struck with AMC Theaters to distribute the movie within the United States. As Variety reports, AMC will be showing the film across 20 of the best-performing markets around the US.

As one would expect with a title of Watch The Skies, the story focuses on a young teenager attempting to track down aliens she believes were responsible for abducting her father.

With a film spoken primarily in another language, the common path when distributing it in the US is to subtitle it before its debut. However, Watch The Skies will be doing something a little different.

Rather than subtitles, the film will be dubbed over in English utilizing artificial intelligence. A company called Flawless used the technology to translate the dialogue into English, and will even go as far as to change the way a character looks while speaking, to sync up the sound and lip movement more seamlessly. Variety also noted that this is the first time that AI has been used on a film in this way.
