The people have spoken, and Superman, carried by good word of mouth, continued to dominate the box office even with stiff competition from Jurassic World Rebirth and a slew of anticipated new films, including Ari Aster’s festival darling, Eddington, and the legacy sequel, I Know What You Did Last Summer. With $57.2 million, Superman stayed on top for its second week, beating Jurassic World Rebirth’s $23.4 million by a large margin.

On top of a healthy second weekSuperman managed to surpass Marvel’s Thunderbolts* total life box office gross $383 million, including international markets at $406.8 million for an international total marking another win for Warner Bros. and DC Studios, as many did not expect Gunn’s Superman to be a hit oversees as none of the previous ittereations were. If Superman continues to creep up, it will next pass rival Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World international total of $415 million.

While Jurassic World Rebirth took second, third went to newcomer I Know What You Did Last Summer with $13 million for a solid start for the horror flick. With positive reviews, it’s likely I Know What You Did Last Summer will stick around for a little more. In fourth came another newcomer, Rihanna’s Smurfs, with initial estimates following through on the lower end at $11 million for its opening week.

Rounding out the top five and still speeding by is F1: The Movie, which took home $9.61 million for its fourth week.

DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon managed to stay ahead in sixth with $5.35 million, beating Eddington. The indie thriller brought home $4.25 million for its premiere. In eighth came Pixar’s Elio, which still stands a chance of being a sleeper hit, though likely not in theaters with no definitive streaming release set. For its fifth week, Elio only brought in $2 million.

In ninth came Disney’s Lilo & Stitch with $1.5 million in its ninth week and an international total passing the $1 billion threshold as the film wraps up its run. For tenth place, rounding out the box office is 28 Years Later with $1.34 million in its fifth week.
