This past week, James Gunn’s Superman, released on July 11th, crossed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office. It is the first DC film to achieve this milestone since 2022’s The Batman, which made $369.2 million in its total domestic box office run. The first film in Gunn’s new DC Universe also passed the total domestic box office run of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, as that film grossed $291 million domestically in 2013, and is nearly close to passing the $330.4 million total domestic gross of Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, released in 2016. Internationally, the film has made $223 million, for a current worldwide gross of $500 million.
Superman is the fourth 2025 release to cross $300 million at the domestic box office, along with A Minecraft Movie, Disney’s Live-Action Lilo & Stitch, and Jurassic World: Rebirth. The film’s biggest competition, Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: First Steps, which was released one week after Superman, has currently made $150 million domestically and $280 million globally.
As Superman enters its third week in theaters and Fantastic Four: First Steps enters its second, both films will compete with the weekend’s new releases, which include Paramount’s revival of The Naked Gun, starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, and DreamWorks Animation’s animated sequel, The Bad Guys 2.
