“Welcome to the frickin Guardians of the Galaxy.” Marvel Studios brought out their hipster superheros and the retro soundtrack with a new look at their eagerly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 for Super Bowl LI. All our old friends are returning for a second round – Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel). Director James Gunn is back in the captain’s chair for Awesome Mixtape #2.
Vol. 2 follows the events of the smash 2014 first outing – a risk for Marvel, given the relatively obscure canon characters – which took in upwards of $700 million at the worldwide box office. This is all prep work, of course, as the Guardians crew will soon join their Marvel family in their upcoming, cast-through-the-rafters Avengers: Infinity War.
The second outing finds our renegades-turned-heroes on a new adventure, one that also deepens and expands the origins of Peter Quill himself. New members join the fray as well including Kurt Russell as Ego, Nathan Fillion as Simon Williams, Pom Klementieff as Mantis and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha. Sylvester Stallone also joins the Marvel family. Along with the latest teaser trailer, Marvel also unveiled a new teaser poster for the film.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5th.
