Sundance 2017: Neon Picks Up ‘Ingrid Goes West’

Fledgling distribution company, Neon, has picked up the social media comedy Ingrid Goes West at Sundance. They beat out the likes of Netflix and A24 for the rights.

Ingrid stars Aubrey Plaza has an obsessive girl who goes on the road to follow her favorite social media celebrity Taylor Sloane – played by Elizabeth Olsen – to Los Angeles. The film is a comedy satire on the digital age and modern celebrity.

The film also stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Wyatt Russell (Everybody Wants Some!!), and Billy Magnussen (Into the Woods). The film is the directorial debut of Matt Spicer.

Neon is a business-child of former Radius-TWC chief Tom Quinn and Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League. They also acquired Anne Hathaway’s monster movie Colossal at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Other big grabs of the festival include Amazon’s acquisition of The Big Sick, Swen’s landing of Una, and Sony Picture Classic’s pick up of Novitiate.
