Sundance: NEON and Hulu Land Lupita Nyong’o Zombie Thriller ‘Little Monsters’

The famed Sundance Film Festival is taking over the town in Park City, Utah, where deals are being signed left and right giving independent films distribution and recognition. Film companies vie for the rights to their favorite films of the festival and one that has picked up some positive attention is Little Monsters, horror comedy starring Lupita Nyong’o and Josh Gad.

After a night of debate, NEON and Hulu made a mid-seven figure deal for theater distribution and online streaming of the film, which is said to be Zombieland meets Kindergarten Cop. The exact details are still being worked out regarding what role each company will play in the film’s release, but it looks like there will be a theatrical release with heavy Hulu advertisement and eventual streaming on the site.

Little Monsters follows Dan (Alexander England), a heartbroken man who is looking for direction in his life and decides to chaperone his 10-year-old nephew’s school trip. On this trip he falls for charming teacher Miss Caroline (Nyong’o) and clashes with children’s TV personality Teddy McGiggle (Gad). Unfortunately, the trip’s destination is near a military base where a sudden zombie outbreak shakes up their plans. The group, alongside a dozen kindergarteners, must find a way to survive and make it to safety.
