Sundance: Magnolia Picks up Ruth Bader Ginsberg Documentary

It looks like there will be justice done to the story of an extremely influential Supreme Court Justice: a new CNN documentary about Ruth Bader Ginsberg, which premiered at Sundance on Sunday, has found a distributor in Participant Media and Magnolia Pictures. Although CNN will continue to possess broadcast rights in the United States, the three companies will co-own all of the distribution rights for the documentary.

The documentary follows Bader Ginsberg’s long and established career at the Supreme Court. It will also relay her crucial commitment for gender equality. Keeping with its message of female empowerment, it is directed by two women: Julie Cohen and Betsy West.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Eamonn Bowles, who occupies the role of the president of Magnolia Pictures, relayed his positive feelings on their newly-aquired project: “RBG is an incredibly inspirational film about supremely inspirational woman. Betsy and Julie have done a phenomenal job highlighting Justice Ginsburg’s tremendous effect on all of our lives. I cannot wait to show it to my daughters.” Magnolia Pictures has also done work to relay the story of another well-know feminist: Malala Yousafazi.

It appears that Ginsberg’s story is getting wider traction, and not just in this documentary. Actress Felicity Jones will also be portraying her in an upcoming film, On the Basis of Sex, allowing her beliefs and message to ring true in an even wider sphere.
