Continuing its acquisition successes at film festivals, Netflix recently acquired the world rights to Sundance drama To the Bone for $8 million.
Written and directed by Marti Noxon, To the Bone stars Lily Collins as the 20-year-old Ellen who enters into a group recovery home in a last-ditch effort to battle her anorexia. With the help of a doctor (Keanu Reeves), Ellen and the other residents go through a funny and moving journey towards becoming healthy. This is a personal story for both Collins and Noxon, who have mentioned before that they have struggled with eating disorders. To the Bone has been well received at Sundance in early reviews.
This also marks the directorial debut of Marti Noxon, who has made her career in television producing in the past two decades. She helped produce and write in a variety of successful television shows like UnREAL, Glee, Mad Men, Private Practice, Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
To the Bone premiered this Sunday, Jan. 22, in the U.S. Dramatic section at Eccles at the Sundance Film Festival. Netflix has announced no release dates yet.
