Paco León’s Spanish-language comedy Kiki, Love to Love has been acquired by Strand Releasing, according to Variety. Originally titled Kiki, el amor se hace, the feature has done well at the box office in Spain. An adaptation of Josh Lawson’s 2014 Australian film The Little Death, the film weaves together five tales of sex and romance.
In addition to directing, León co-wrote the screenplay with Fernando Perez and also is among the ensemble cast which includes Alex García, Natalia De Molina, Ana Katz and Belén Cuesta. Vertigo Films produced alongside Mediaset Espana with the backing of ICAA.
Jon Gerrans from Strand Releasing said, “Kiki is a fresh comedic farce from León and one we’re proud to add to our library.” The deal was done between Olivier Barbier and Carole Baraton of Wild Bunch and Gerrans.
As an actor, León is known for his TV series Aida and Homo Zapping and his movies Three Many Weddings and We are Pregnant. He directed Carmina y amén which earned nominations at the Goya Awards (Spain’s Oscars) and the European Film Awards. Strand Releasing, which has U.S. rights, has plans to release Kiki in early 2017. Strand Releasing’s lineup also includes Alain Guiraudie’s Staying Vertical, Andrew Ahn’s Spa Night and Stephen Dunn’s Closet Monster.
