Variety reported that Strand Releasing has acquired select U.S. rights to So Yong Kim‘s drama, Lovesong for early release next year.
Lovesong premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at 2016 Sundance Film Festival and screened this past weekend at Sundance NEXTFEST in Los Angeles. Jena Malone and Riley Keough star as friends who have more than friendly relationship. Their deep connection blossoms into something more over the course of an impromptu road trip. All comes to a head when one is about to be married. Lovesong also stars Brooklyn Decker, Ryan Eggold, Rosanna Arquette and Amy Seimetz.
This will mark Kim’s fourth feature whose previous work includes, For Ellen, Treeless Mountain, and In Between Days. She directed Lovesong from a script she co-wrote with Brad Rust Gray.
It is worth mentioning that Strand in responsible for Kim’s In Between Days release.
John Gerrans of Strand, Zac Bright, and Kevin Iwashina of Preferred Content negotiated the deal. International territory sales will continue to be handled by Mongrel Media.
