Steven Spielberg says he has no plans to ever retire from filmmaking, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The director made the announcement during a June 26 screening room theater dedication on the Universal Studios lot in his honor.
In attendance for the ceremony were numerous celebrities and colleagues such as the Daniels, Seth Rogen, Colman Domingo, Ke Huy Quan, Vin Diesel, Ava DuVernay, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Jeff Goldblum, and others, with NBC Universal Entertainment chairman Donna Langley leading the dedication. She said,
“Our hope and dream is that this is not just a place founded on Steven’s extraordinary legacy, but a place of future hopes and dreams of storytellers who are going to take this company into the next 100 years, and the 100 years after that.”
The director echoed these sentiments, reflecting on witnessing the studio’s ups and downs over the years and expressing his excitement at where Universal is currently, saying that it is
“…The rebirth of the belief in the people that work as a family, as a community, as a team to make good things happen.”
Spielberg then ended his speech by stating,
“Just know that I love all of you, I’m making a lot of movies, and I have no plans, ever, to retire.”
Almost as if to back up these words, he then surprised the attendees with footage from his currently untitled UFO movie featuring stars Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor trying to escape a damaged truck after colliding with a speeding train.
The evening then ended with the guests experiencing an exclusive exhibit featuring various props, costumes, behind-the-scenes photos, equipment, and merchandise from the director’s films over the years.
Spielberg’s untitled UFO movie is scheduled for release on June 12, 2026.
