Producers of Room 101, Steven Schneider, and Malkier Studios are joining forces for many new horror films. Schneider has been known for his work in Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch.
Malkier Studios is a relatively newly formed production company. Their primary focus will be on thriller, IP-driven horror, and animation. The producers working with Schneider are D.C. Cassidy, Julia Wang Zhu, and Michael Fisk.
The first film collaboration is Janus, written by Jason Zada and Nate Atkins and directed by Zada. The film follows three band members in an old farmhouse where they encounter a woman with unspeakable secrets. Schneider and Joe Heath will be producing along with Slash, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist, for musical oversight. Production will take place later in the year in Puerto Rico. The cast includes Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things), M.C. Gainey (Emperor), Alex Neustaedter (American Rust), Jack Kilmer (Lords of Chaos), and Natalie Alyn Lind (Big Sky).
Micah Ranum (The Silencing) wrote the screenplay for The Worthless Remains and will be one of the producers along with Schneider and Roy Lee (It, The Grudge, Barbarian) from Spooky Pictures. Director X. (Superfly) will be in charge of the project. The film will be a traumatic period piece. Lee and Schneider have a specific vision for the film. Cassidy states, “We plan on building a long and fruitful relationship with Room 101 and Spooky Pictures and are honored to be part of this dynamic collaboration.”
Schneider says, “Producing a horror slate with innovators such as Jason Zada and Director X. is a nightmare come true. These stories are fresh and exciting, and I can’t wait to see them realized in collaboration with Malkier Studios. Together, I’m confident we’ll elevate the genre to new heights.”
