Steven Knight Exits Daisy Ridley’s Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Film

Steven Knight has decided to step down as screenwriter for the Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie which centers on Daisy Ridley’s Rey. The movie was announced last year during the Star Wars Celebration making fans highly anticipate Rey’s return to the big screen.

Puck News confirmed that Steven Knight recently left the project stating,

“Knight was enlisted last year after previous writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were also hired with much fanfare and later dropped into a Sarlacc pit. Lucasfilm is now hunting for a new writer on New Jedi Order, which almost certainly means the film will not be ready by December 2026, the date Disney has staked out for a Star Wars release.”

It seems that writers are having difficulty with bringing Rey’s story to life. Disney is not helping these prospects since they have not been seeing eye to eye with Lucasfilm for a while now, especially with the reshooting of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Lately, the Star Wars franchise has been mainly kept to Disney+ through various television series, but in August of this year, Lucasfilm promised to release three movies between 2026 and 2027.

However, with this recent development, it is unlikely that Lucasfilm will be releasing a new Star Wars film anytime soon. We are looking forward to hearing new updates soon.
