Stephen McKinley Henderson To Headline Crime Drama ‘Anglers’ From Debut Filmmaker Zoe Simone

Veteran stage and screen actor Stephen McKinley Henderson (Civil War, Beau Is Afraid, Dune) has signed on to lead the independent crime drama Anglers, marking the feature directorial debut of writer-director Zoe Simone. Principal photography is scheduled to commence this December on location in Simone’s hometown of Houston, Texas.

Written by Simone, a graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts’ Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing, the narrative centers on a larger-than-life figure in the twilight of his career who sets out to seek justice against a trio of online crusaders after an internet sting operation crosses the line into dangerous territory. Joining Henderson in the ensemble cast are Ra’Mya Latiah Aikens (Myron Bolitar), Bella Samman (Walker), Raffi Manjikian, Beau Karnsrithong, Justin Lee Dudo, and Gregg Kearns.

The indie feature is produced by Jamund Washington and Kelley Robins Hicks—the collaborative team behind the Peabody Award-winning HBO series Random Acts of Flyness and Nana Mensah’s Tribeca award-winner Queen of Glory—alongside Jake Weiner of Harvest Hill Entertainment. Weiner, who also manages Simone, recently produced David Robert Mitchell’s upcoming features They Follow for Neon and The End of Oak Street for Warner Bros.

A multi-time Tony Award nominee for his performances in August Wilson’s Fences and Stephen Adly Guirgis’s Between Riverside and Crazy, Henderson’s extensive film and television credits include Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, Alex Garland’s FX limited series Devs, and the Netflix comedy series A Man on the Inside opposite Ted Danson.
