Stephen Dorff Cast in Upcoming ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Prequel ‘Leatherface’

Action/horror stalwart Stephen Dorff (Blade) has joined the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel Leatherface, according to Deadline. Dorff will be playing the role of Texas Ranger Hal Hartman, charged with chasing down a group of violent patients who escape from a mental asylum.

The film is reported to be an origin story, showing us how it all began with the classic big-screen baddie Leatherface. The plot is expected to hang upon the big mystery of which of the escaped boys will end up as the iconic villain. Dorff’s Ranger is described as a deranged lawman seeking revenge on one of the teenaged escapees. Dorff joins Sam Strike (TV’s Eastenders), relative newcomer James Bloor, and Angela Bettis (Girl, Interrupted) in the cast.

Leatherface will be directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (Among the Living), from a script by Seth M. Sherwood. The film is set to begin production in May, with an eye on a 2016 release.
