In an interview on CBS News’ “Sunday Morning,” Mark Hamill expressed that he was finished reprising his role as Luke Skywalker.
Well, you never say never, but I just don’t see any reason to. Let me put it [this] way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore. I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough.
Along with Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Hamill starred in director and creator George Lucas’ Star Wars trilogy (A New Hope (1977), Return of the Jedi (1983), The Empire Strikes Back (1980)). He returned to the franchise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and was featured in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), where his character, Luke Skywalker, died.
The actor returned for a small role in the Disney+ television show, The Mandalorian, as a young Skywalker through de-aging technology. Hamill notes that he joined due to his curiosity about the process but concluded that it was “unusual” and ruled out any other possibilities of reusing the technology for future roles.
While Hamill retires from Luke Skywalker, the Star Wars franchise will continue with new projects such as Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, and an upcoming film with Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey Skywalker.
