‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Finally Set To Film in May

Disney and LucasFilm officially announced that principal photography for Star Wars: Episode VII, directed by recent Star Trek director J.J. Abrams, will commence on May 2014 at Pinewood Studios in west London. Responding to casting rumors while at a shareholder’s meeting in Portland today, Disney chief Bob Iger playfully remarked that though everyone under the sun has been rumored to be part of Star Wars, the confirmed cast stands at one: ” R2D2. Played by R2D2.” He did add that pre-production is ongoing, and the concept art for the new movie “looks amazing.” You wouldn’t expect a Disney exec to say anything else, but at least the lid seems to be coming off the production a little.
Lucasfilm also confirmed that Star Wars: Episode VII will also be set 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and “will star a new trio of young leads along with some very familiar faces.”  This would seem to dispel some of the rumors that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill will be the outright leads for Episode VII, but also encourages the notion that they’ll play roles amounting to more than a couple cameos.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be released in theaters on December 18, 2015.
